Majlis Perbandaran Kota Samarahan (MPKS) is pleased to announce our collaboration with the Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) to install awareness billboards and buntings in public areas across Kota Samarahan.
This initiative aims to educate and inform the public on critical social issues, including, Substance Abuse (drugs, inhalants and alcohol awareness), Vape & Smoking Prevention (highlighting health risks and consequences), Bullying & Harassment (creating a safe environment for youth), Early Sexual Contact Risks (raising awareness on teenage pregnancy and reproductive health), Online Scamming & Cyber Threats (promoting digital safety and fraud prevention)
Kota Samarahan is one of the most densely populated areas for teenagers and young adults due to the presence of multiple educational institutions. With the upcoming Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) project, the population is expected to grow further. Therefore, it is timely for MPKS and MCPF to expand efforts in crime prevention and community engagement through initiatives such as town hall meetings, direct community dialogues and targeted programs in schools and public spaces.
The rise in theft, vandalism and drug abuse in the area is a growing concern. Beyond consumer-related issues, social ills are affecting all levels of society—not only in urban areas but also gradually spreading to rural communities. Addressing these challenges requires a collective effort.
On behalf of MPKS, we extend our sincere appreciation to our Honourable Premier for his continuous support in crime prevention initiatives. We also recognize MCPF for their dedication and expertise in crime prevention for over three decades, backed by former police officers and academicians.
We urge more corporate entities to step forward and support MPKS in this fight against crime. Given MPKS’s vast jurisdiction and its diverse, multi-racial communities, public-private partnerships will be crucial in ensuring a safer and more harmonious environment for all.
